Katsudon-ya Zuicho

"As good as I remembered it 9 years ago. They have branded t-shirts now, more staff and a better system for getting into the restaurant. But the quality is still there. We got there around 6pm and the line wasn’t too bad. Juicy katsu, delicious sweet sauce, perfect katsudon runny egg. Just wonderfully made and comfort food Katsudon. Cash is ideal and there is only one item on the menu, it is pricy for what it is but totally worth it."

"The katsudon was absolutely delicious!! Fried to perfection. The owner was frying only a few katsu at the time and watching the closely. Tender pork meat. The staff is incredible at their job! The young lady at the door was super communicative and was able to take our order while we waited in line to minimize our wait. And the owner was really sweet and was so kind to share his story! They just had their 12 year anniversary of this location and I can’t wait to see where they open their next location! The space was quite quiet because everyone was enjoying their bowls. They are quite busy so be mindful about being on your phone this is one of those places where you come, enjoy your food, pay and leave. 10/10 recommend"

"This restaurant serves incredibly delicious Japanese cutlet dishes with rice and egg, and the food was absolutely worth the wait. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and very satisfying. The combination of the crispy cutlet, soft egg, and perfectly prepared rice worked extremely well together. I would especially recommend adding an extra egg, as it makes the dish even better. Overall, I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant at least once. It was one of the most enjoyable meals I had and definitely a place I would return to."

"I arrived at 10:30 AM and was the first in line. Google stated that they open at 11:30 AM, but they actually started taking orders around 11:00 AM and seated us shortly after. The restaurant only has 8 seats, so it’s quite limited. The pork katsu was crispy and delicious, and the egg paired beautifully with the sauce. It combined the sweetness of the sauce perfectly with the saltiness of the katsu, while the rice balanced the entire meal superbly. Since seating is limited, I left promptly after finishing my meal. By the time I stepped outside, there was already a long queue forming."

"The best katsudon I've ever had! There is a line even in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday. We just got in line and waited about 45min to 1hr before we were seated. The staff member hands out a menu while you're in line, which basically only has one thing, the katsudon, but you can order an extra egg or extra piece of katsu. If you order any extras, you pay with cash right there in line. I saw this staff member was also super nice and even ran after some customers down the street when they forgot some things after eating. The restaurant is super small, only counter seating. Just get in, eat, pay, and leave. I'd definitely come back."

"My first dinner choice in Tokyo was Katsudon-ya Zuicho, and I absolutely loved it. It’s a small and cozy place, so there can be a wait during peak hours, but it’s definitely worth it. The meal started with a soup that was warm and comforting, a perfect way to begin. For the main dish, the panko-crusted fried pork was perfectly cooked and crispy, and the eggs underneath were incredibly delicious. The food was served at just the right temperature, which made the whole meal even more enjoyable. Even though I don’t speak Japanese, I was able to communicate with some English, and the staff were very welcoming and cheerful throughout. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience and a great first meal in Tokyo."

"Katsudon-ya Zuicho is a must every time I visit Tokyo! Their katsudon is just perfect. Not too soggy, with crispy pork, perfectly cooked eggs, and a nicely balanced sweet-salty sauce. The place is small with limited seating, so you’ll probably have to wait in line, but it’s totally worth it."
